Tuam AC notes 26/12/14

Tuam Athletic Club fielded one of it’s biggest teams of the year in the 13th annual running of the Fields of Athenry 10k. Over 20 members braved the now almost predictable cold, wind and rain of St. Stephens Day in Athenry. Despite this weather and flooded roads many members managed to run personal bests for 10k – both Brendan Monaghan and Padraic Burke left their best 10k times to the last race of the year.

The club was represented very well across all categories with winners as follows:

Men Over 45 – 1st Dan O’Rourke
Men Over 55 – 1st Mark Rabbitte
Men Over 65 – 2nd Martin Hynes
Men Over 75 – 1st Roger Rushe

Women Over 40 – 2nd Clare Rowe Women Team – 2nd – Clare Rowe, Elaine Fleming, Jean Coleman & Audrey Greaney

Time now for a well earned rest before commencing training for our annual Tuam 8k road race on Sunday 18th January at 2:30pm. Enter online on www.runireland.com or on the day in The Mercy secondary school gym.

Members please note that the 2015 club membership will be due from 1st January.

The next Fit4Life beginners running group will be starting on Tuesday 13th January at 7pm from Tuam swimming pool carpark. Please wear a Hi-Viz top, comfortable clothes and proper fitting runners. All participants that are new to running should check with their GP before commencing Fit4Life.

Finally, Tuam AC would like to thank all members for making 2014 such a great year. Here’s hoping we’ll spend many a run together in 2015.

  1. How could Brendan Monaghan not make some significant comment on his first ever sub-40 for 10KM performance, and at his very advanced age too ;-)?

Sincere congratulations from another road warrior who will probably never see that glorious day!
