Tuam AC was represented at the two biggest athletics events at the weekend. Tommy Joe Whyte ran a great race in The Phoenix Park to finish the Frank Duffy 10 Mile race in an impressive 63 mins.
Meanwhile, Nicola Monaghan represented Tuam as part of the Galway County Ladies team in the All Ireland National League Final at Tullamore Stadium. The Galway County Ladies team were victorious last year in Division 1 and as a result they were promoted to the Premier Division for this years competition. This represented a major step up in terms of standards and results and Galway were hoping to avoid relegation back to Division 1 and secretly hoping to make it into the Final where only the top 8 teams in the Country take part. Galway made it to the final in 8th place and improved on their standings once again on Saturday when they finished in 6th place overall. A great achievement for a newly promoted team and they will surely be challenging for medals once again in 2012.
And finally, a special word of congratulations to our neighbours Galway City Harriers as their Men’s team finished in 2nd place in Division 1. They were all delighted to receive Silver All Ireland Medals on Saturday evening.
