Tuam Teams among the prizes in Hollymount

Tuam AC were faced with a very good problem to solve in Hollymount on Sunday when they had enough runners to fill two teams in the annual 10km road race. We had to decide who would run in the teams, as they had to be declared before the race. A tactical discussion took place and it paid off as both teams ended up in the prizes.

Tommy Joe Whyte and Dan O’Rourke helped and pushed each other all the way to the line finishing in 10th and 11th place overall in 37 mins. They were followed by Dave Mullins in 40 mins and Padraic Burke who had a great race to finish in 41 mins. The team finished in 3rd place overall and were only beaten by Mayo AC ‘A’ team and Liverpool Harriers ‘A’ team.

The other Tuam team was lead by Derek Naughton who ran a superb race and also finished in 40 mins. He was followed by Brendan Monaghan in 41 mins, Martin Hynes in 45 mins and the legendary Paddy Gilmore who finished in 59 mins and secured 6th place overall for the team. It is a long time since Tuam AC fielded two full teams in a road race and it is great to see old and new members making up the teams in 2012.

Juveniles impress in Hollymount

The Hollymount Juvenile race over 3km took place on Sunday and Tuam was very well represented. Jonathon Brinn finished in 3rd place and he was followed by Cian Mullins in 4th place, Eoin Mullins in 5th place and a fantastic run from young Caoimhe Mullins who finished in 6th place overall and was the first girl to cross the line. The future is looking good for Tuam based on this result.
