Great performances by Tuam Juveniles in County Indoors

Three of our longest serving juvenile athletes traveled to Nenagh on Saturday for the Galway County Indoor championships. Abdul Wahab Momoh, Darragh Finneran and Rory Monaghan have represented Tuam AC for many years and are regular competitors in the All Ireland championships. They went to Nenagh on Saturday to take part in the Under 17 Shot Putt competition and were hoping to collect a medal. At the end of the competition the Tuam lads had made a clean sweep of the event and collected all three medals on offer with Abdul taking Gold with a very impressive throw of 11m 56cm, Darragh taking Silver with 10m 40cm and Rory taking Bronze with 9m 56cm. It was a great team effort and the years of training and competing together have really paid off.

Later on in the day Abdul and Darragh took part in the U17 Long Jump competition which included the current All Ireland champion Evan Quirke of Athenry AC. The two Tuam lads did extremely well once again finishing in Silver and Bronze position behind Evan. Their obvious talent for long jump was noted by the huge crowd of spectators and the officials and they are now looking forward to the Connacht Indoors and hopefully All Ireland qualification. Darragh’s younger brother Damien also travelled to Nenagh on Saturday and he will soon be winning medals himself if Saturday’s performance is maintained. He finished 4th in a very strong shot putt competition and also ran a great 60m sprint. Everybody in Tuam AC is very proud of these athletes and wish them well for the rest of the season.
