Stevies 5000, Nicola’s PB, Ironman John and Tom’s 5K

It was a week of personal bests for three Tuam AC athletes. Stevie Joyce ran a brilliant 5000m on the track in Dangan last Tues evening and finished in 18.53. He is in great shape for his next big test which will be the Streets of Galway on Aug 11th. Nicola Monaghan set a PB in the Shot Putt at the National League in Tullamore on Sunday where she was representing County Galway and she also had a very good hammer competition.

But personal bests don’t come much bigger than John Mongans unbelievable achievement at the Ironman UK which took place in Bolton on Sunday. John’s day started with a 2.5 mile swim followed by 112 miles cycle and he then ran a full 26.2 mile marathon and he did all of this without stopping in 13 hours. If anybody ever deserved the title of Ironman he certainly does and everybody in Tuam AC would like to congratulate him.

Finally a big well done to Tom Connelly who ran another great race at the Boston Scientific 5K in Maree last Wednesday and good luck to our juvenile athletes who will be representing Tuam AC at the All Ireland track and field final on Saturday.
