The Headford 8k Road Race took place on Saturday evening and it even managed to stop raining for the very well attended race with 300 participants. Headford put on a great event and it is a credit to the organisers and no surprise that this race continues to grow every year. Tuam AC had a very successful outing with at least 20 members of the club taking part and it would not be possible to name them all here but a special mention must go to Ann Marie Miskell who was in exceptional form on Saturday. She set off at a frightening pace up the hill in Headford and kept the foot down all the way to the finish line where she was the 3rd lady home overall and 2nd in the senior category. She was only just beaten by two outstanding runners from Co Mayo. Collette Tuohy was the first lady home and that is becoming a very regular result in 2012 as she is having a fantastic year and the very talented Ann Lennon was in 2nd place followed by Ann Marie.
The first Tuam AC runner home on Saturday was Enda Mannion in 28 mins and at least 20 club mates followed him over the next few minutes. The race was won by Michael Shannon from Co Clare who completed a remarkable double on Saturday when he stopped off in Headford on his way home from Achill where he had ran and won the Achill Half Marathon on Saturday morning in 71 mins. Achill is widely regarded as a very tough course and Headford is no joke either so it was a truly remarkable days work.
